WELCOME TO THE HULLETT PROVINCIAL WILDLIFE AREA

 

 

  • Pheasants will be arriving at the Hullett Office on July 4th between 8:00 am and 9:00 am. Anyone wishing to volunteer to help fit the pheasants with blinders is more than welcome to help out. It will take roughly 3 to 4 hours to fit all the pheasants with blinders. After the work is done, we will be providing a lunch for all volunteers.
  • On Thursday June 25th, a dog was found on a private residence at the north end of the Marsh. It was a male with an orange collar. If you have lost this dog please contact the Friends of Hullett Office @ 519-482-7011.
  • The boardwalk to the Whistler Pool viewing stand will be closed the 29th & 30th of June. The Friends of Hullett will be removing the boardwalk and adding an earthen dyke to the viewing stand.
  • The 2009 AGM and Youth Day went great. Two new directors were elected onto the Board of Directors. On Behalf of the Friends of Hullett, I would like to welcome Dave Dale and Johnathon McDowell, both new to the Board of Directors, and congratulate Ed Allen on being re-elected onto the Board of Directors.
  • The Friends of Hullett would like to thank Dave Palmer for his volunteer time on the Board of Directors and with many of the programs that Dave took part in.
  • There will not be a guided hunt in the white tail swamp this year due to poor numbers harvested in 2008.
  • The handicapped hunting blind on Bridge Rd will be moved to the Whistler pool where stake 34 currently sits and stake 34 will be moved to the East side of the pond. The Whistler viewing stand has been demolished and will not be replaced. We will be sure to identify this in the 2009/2010 User Guide.

  • Prescribed Burn Program at the Hullett Marsh receives funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
  • We are now accepting Apprentice Hunter applications For the 2009 Youth Pheasant Hunt. Submit application . (Open pdf and save to computer, fill out using typewriter tool and send by using the email tab.)
  • Sunday hunting is permitted within the Hullett Marsh. There is Sunday hunting in Zone B for small game and pheasant and waterfowl, Zone A is waterfowl only.

    2009 Vanessa Palmer Award Receipient

     

    Audrey Chambers was the succesful winner of the Vanessa Palmer Award for 2009. Audrey is pursuing a career in natural Resources and the Friends of Hullett wish her all the best in her future. Congratulations Audrey.

    2009 Pheasant Challenge

    Ideal Supply has generously donated all the prizes for the 2009 Pheasant Challenge. On behalf of the Board of Directors, members, staff and hunters, I would like to thank Tim McDonald at Ideal Supply for supporting the Friends of Hullett in this program.

     

    Community Service Hours at the Hullett Marsh

    The Hullett marsh is an excellent place for high school students to earn their community service hours. There is always work to do from feeding and caring for Ring Necked Pheasants to removing beaver dams.     The Hullett Prescribed Burn Program

    The Friends of Hullett received funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation in the amount of $130,000 over two years, to facilitate the implementation of a local prescribed burn program. These funds will help to buy the equipment, training and resources needed for this program, which will be used within the Marsh and the surrounding community.

    The Hullett P.W.A. offers programs geared to schools and community groups. We can put together a program that complements your school's curriculum and make the learning fun as well as informative. If your group wants to get back to nature or get out and get some exercise, try our many trails or take a guided tour with a knowledgeable Hullett staff member. Come out and learn about the amazing natural habitat in your own backyard. For those that can't get to us, we can even 'bring the marsh to you' with displays and multimedia presentations for your group to enjoy.
